# Output Formats - PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF

## Output Formats

The right format depends on where the image is going. A transparent overlay wants PNG. A photo-heavy social card is smaller as JPEG. The web loves WebP. A certificate wants to print. One parameter now covers all four.

### Choosing a format

```http
GET https://render.imejis.io/v1/<design-id>?format=webp
```

- **`png`** - lossless with transparency, best for logos, overlays, and crisp edges.
- **`jpeg`** - smallest for photographic designs; add `?quality=` (1-100) to trade size against fidelity.
- **`webp`** - modern web format with a strong size-to-quality ratio.
- **`pdf`** - a single-page document, ideal for certificates, tickets, and anything headed to a printer.

### Tuning JPEG

`?quality=` only applies to JPEG. Lower it for thumbnails and previews where bytes matter more than pixels, leave it high for anything customer-facing:

```http
GET https://render.imejis.io/v1/<design-id>?format=jpeg&quality=72
```

It's live on every render, GET and POST. Combine it with [delivery modes](/blogs/tutorials/image-api-delivery-modes) to stream, host, or sign the output in whatever format you picked.
